Although raised in Colorado, Dr. Chavez’ New Mexico roots run deep.  For the past 350 years his ancestors have prospered in the Albuquerque, Questa, and Chimayo areas.

Dr. Chavez attended the University Of Colorado, School Of Dentistry and graduated in 1993.  He then proudly served as a Lieutenant Dental Officer in the [COUNTY] Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA and Okinawa, Japan until 1998.  Following an honorable discharge, he joined his former professors, teaching Endodontics full-time at CU School of Dentistry, before accepting a coveted Endodontic Residency position at the Prestigious University of Texas, Houston, Dental Branch in 1999.  While at UT Houston, Dr. Chavez not only satisfied requirements for completion of his endodontic residency, but also performed original scientific research in HIV/AIDS.  For that work Dr. Chavez also received a post-doctoral Master of Science degree in 2002.

Dr. Chavez returned to Colorado to practice endodontics and spent the next 12 years mastering his craft before relocating to New Mexico.  Having completed approximately 8000 cases, Dr. Chavez enjoys practicing dentistry at the highest level and his office is equipped with the newest technology including surgical operating microscopes and a 3-D imaging CBCT scanner.  The office is also eliminating virtually all use of paper and paper products in the office, reducing harsh chemical use, and plastic bag use.

Dr. Chavez has served as a former endodontic consultant for the Colorado State Board of Dental Examiners, and was recognized with a 2012 Patient’s Choice Award as one of Colorado’s Favorite Doctors.  Dr. Chavez has been named among America’s top dentists in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 as well as being honored as a Fellow and lifetime member of the Academy of Dental Sciences.

Starting Spring 2014, Dr. Chavez began a two year Forensic Odontology Fellowship thru the University of Texas, San Antonio.  It is the premier forensic training program in the country.  Following completion, he hopes to volunteer with Dr. Peter Loomis, DDS at the Medical Examiners Office.

In his spare time Dr. Chavez is a dedicated practitioner of both Japanese and Brazilian Jujitsu, and was recognized by the Grand Junction Police Department and Sheriff’s Office for his contributions to their arrest control and defensive tactics programs.

Dr. Chavez has been blessed with a loving family.  His wife, Casey, is a Pathology Resident at UNM Hospital and they welcomed their newborn daughter in August 2013.
